This month, we focus on: Taking your startup global: Fundraising for global ventures
We've gathered a panel of experts who will be speaking on the options to fundraise for global expansions and the considerations that come with it, including:
- What options are available to fundraise when going global?
- What do investors look for when investing in startups with a global focus?
- What important considerations do startups need to take into account when looking at fundraising to expand globally?
- What are some common mistakes that have occurred in the past?
- Examples of startups who have successfully raised and expanded overseas - lessons and tips learnt from these ventures
Panellists
Matthew Browne, Managing Partner, Black Nova Venture Capital Matt has Co-Founded a variety of successful startups. most notably, Donesafe, a global EHS SaaS startup with 1.5million+ users with an exit in 2020 for an eight figure sum. Matt is a Y Combinator alumni, Venture Partner at Antler and has mentored hundreds of startups over the past decade. His mission is to build greater tech literacy within Australia and to make a positive impact  through partnerships in the startup ecosystem.
Mark Humphery-Jenner, Associate Professor of Finance, UNSW Business School | Investment Committee Member, Sydney Angels Mark Humphery-Jenner is an Angel Investor with Sydney Angels, where he is also on the Investment Committee. He is also an Associate Professor of Finance at UNSW Business School, where his research focuses on corporate finance, including venture capital and private equity. He has invested in nine startups over the past three years. These have been in various sectors, ranging from AgTech, through to Health/ Biotech, through to services. Mark has published papers on VC and PE in leading business journals. This includes research into the factors that influence VC/PE performance, and cross-border VC/PE activity.
Jonny Wilkinson, MD & Co-Founder, Equitise Jonny has extensive experience in equity markets and marketing with a personal investment philosophy focused on high growth companies. His passion for innovation drove him to co-found Equitise as a platform where Australian and New Zealand businesses could access the capital they need to grow. He is an advisor to the Australian Treasurer on Fintech and was central to the legislative changes in the Equity Crowdfunding market in Australia.
